Not sure why so many people like this book. Maybe because it's short and full of text. My sense is the author is rehashing a bunch of self-help tips but has little actual OTB play to back it up. A book with a title suggesting mastery of chess but then goes on to explain how the pieces move is like someone saying they can help you run your way to the Olympics and then trying to teach you the difference between boots and running shoes and how to tie the laces for the first time.Beyond some standard works from Nimzowich, Fisher, Chernev, I would be more more incline to suggest those wanting to advance their knowledge and skills look to Bruce Pandolfini, Dan Heisman, David MacEnulty and Lev Albert materials to remediate their gaps, and then throw on some Jeremy Silman and Andy Soltis. Throw in some chess dot com and chesstempo
dot com work and ICC for experience. Write down your games and have a coach or chess engine help you find where you could do better.

I have always wanted to learn how to play chess! I know the basics about it and i know i don't know that much. But i've never thought even the basic things i've learned from playing isn't the basic at all when i started reading this book. It gives me a more detailed informative data and guide me through from scratch. I didn't even know that there's a rule about "white is right" and it teaches me the value of each piece. I'm going to share this book to my friends. This is a very helpful book.
Learning the tips in this book, made it seem so simple. It breaks it down and explains why you move the pieces that way. This was easy to read, even for me, who is a beginner at Chess. It jumped right in to special tactics that should be used as well as expert chess strategies. The further I got through this book the more comprehensive and complex I felt the book got which is a good thing. I also construe that this game can't be played brilliantly without the knowledge of the strategies and tactics presented in this book.
As a mere hobbyist of this game, I haven't developed definitive skills in playing chess. Having read this book, I just realize that there are more things that I need to learn in playing this game. The strategies and tactics that I have learned from this book could somehow improve my skills in playing this game. In particular, chess openings are very vital to winning this game and they largely dictate the course and outcome of the game. As I intend to improve my playing skills, I focus on chess openings. In bestowing such strategies and with considerable practice, I have no doubt that playing chess would be more challenging and enjoyable.
I'm not an Expert level of player of Chess but I just love to play Cards & Chess as well even when we plan to go out somewhere we just make sure that, we grab the Chess with us. I'm impressed with this book's ideas & tips and amazed as well to know that, how depth sport it is instead as we play just for fun. I learned a lot from this book like Techniques, How to begin and Tactics in different circumstances which is really useful, helpful & informative as well. Although, I was also expecting little introduction as well about the Chess like History and thing like that but it's still nice to read this book and I would like to ask audience to grab this book as well.
Very superficial!
This "book" read like a non-edited first draft of a high school essay.
It is repetitive, unoriginal and overwhelmingly contrived. Thus is the first book that I have ever read which appears to have been written simply to make a few dollars.
Disappointed.
I was looking for a more practical strategies than this book. I would look for another book more practical and no so general talking about chess.
